The month in one paragraph

No Brevo email marketing send went out in August, and that single fact explains almost every number in this report. Referral sessions collapsed to 64 (from 3,082 in July, and every other month this year bar February and April had a send of some size), and with it went the usual sea of low-engagement landing-page visits. What's left is a genuinely quiet but healthy month: engagement rate at 41.7% is the highest of the year so far, well above even July 2025's comparable quiet month. This is the closest this report has come to showing the site's true organic baseline with nothing else layered on top.

Referral is back to being genuine referral traffic

With no Brevo send this month, Referral is a fraction of its usual size and, for the first time this year, made up almost entirely of real sources rather than the untagged email link-tracking domain — hence the healthy 62.5% engagement rate on this channel, a world away from the 1–3% it usually carries in a send month. This is exactly what the site's Referral traffic looks like without the email marketing layered on top, and it's worth keeping this month as the reference point for what "normal" Referral should read like once UTM tagging is eventually fixed.

This is the strongest artist-page engagement rate all year at 58.5%, comfortably ahead of every send month and even ahead of most non-send months. Conrad Bauer and Ben Perry both average over 4 minutes on page this month, a genuine signal of real portfolio browsing rather than the near-zero readings that dominate this section most months.

Search visibility this month

Average position eased further to 34.6, the softest reading of the year, extending the decline seen since March. Branded search share came back down slightly from July's 69% to 65%, still well above the January–April norm. CTR held flat month on month and is comfortably ahead of last August, which is a small positive against an otherwise soft month for search.

Outbound engagement from artist pages

No individual artist outbound clicks (personal site, Instagram, mailto) reached measurable volume from any single artist page this month. General Instagram engagement from Home, the artist index, and Contact totalled 32 clicks, covered in Section 8.
Reading this month's leaderboard

Every artist's session count fell sharply month on month, which is expected with no send driving traffic to their pages — this table now reads much closer to genuine, unforced interest than in any send month this year. Kell Mitchell's year-on-year comparison stands out as a real decline worth a look (120 sessions last August to 46 this August), since last year's figure also wasn't spike-distorted.

A quiet but steady month for Contact — sessions eased back on July but engagement rate held essentially flat and average time on page actually improved. Broadly in line with last August too. Nothing here suggests Contact activity depends on the email send in the way overall session volume clearly does.

Insights & Key Takeaways

Growth Insights
Best engagement rate of the year 41.7% overall, ahead of every month in 2026 so far including last August, with no email send to explain it away as noise.
Referral traffic is finally showing its true quality 62.5% engagement rate on Referral this month, versus the usual 1–3% in send months. This is the cleanest look yet at what genuine referral activity to the site actually looks like.
Contact holding up without campaign support 31 sessions with solid engagement, in a month with no marketing push behind it at all — a good sign the enquiry pipeline isn't wholly dependent on email activity.
Opportunities
A no-send month is the ideal moment to fix UTM tagging With no campaign running, this is a clean window to set up proper tracking on the next Brevo send before it goes out, rather than fixing it retroactively.
Content pipeline is empty for a second area to watch No new articles this month after three in July. Worth checking whether this was a deliberate pause alongside the email marketing gap.
Art Buying: eight months, zero sessions Still unresolved. This is now the longest-running open item in the report.
Watch Points
Average search position at its lowest point of the year 34.6, continuing the decline since March's 17.6. Five months of consistent softening now warrants a dedicated look rather than a monthly mention.
Kell Mitchell down meaningfully year on year 120 sessions last August to 46 this August — a genuine comparison since neither month was spike-distorted, unlike most of this year's other artist swings.
Overall sessions well down year on year despite the quiet month 880 versus 1,103 last August, a 20% fall even with both months lacking a major campaign push. Worth understanding whether this reflects softer organic demand generally.

Standout in this graph

August is the lowest point on the chart all year, lower even than February and April, the two other months without a full-size send. With no email marketing activity at all this month, this is the clearest read yet of the site's true baseline — useful context for calibrating how much of every other month's height is campaign-driven versus organic.

Standout in this graph

Referral drops to its lowest point on the chart all year, confirming what a "no send" month looks like against the four clear peaks earlier in the year. Direct and Organic Search both eased slightly too, in line with the broader quiet month, but far less dramatically than Referral — reinforcing that Referral's swings are driven almost entirely by the email marketing calendar rather than anything happening elsewhere on the site.

Search Clicks: Branded vs Non-branded

Branded queries Non-branded queries
Standout in this graph

Branded stays ahead of non-branded for a fourth consecutive month. The gap narrowed slightly this month (non-branded ticked up a touch from July), but the broader May–August pattern of branded-led search shows no sign of reverting to the January–April norm.

Standout in this graph

Every artist's line drops sharply this month, all converging toward the bottom of the chart with no single artist standing out — the clearest visual confirmation yet that these lines track the email send calendar rather than any individual artist's popularity. Worth keeping this month in mind as the baseline reading for each artist going forward.
